Barnardo's Wellbeing Service

Does your child spend a lot of time worrying about things going on in their life or about the people closest to them?

Has there been a recent loss or bereavement in the family?

Is your child struggling with the pressures of exams or worrying about changing schools?

Does your child struggle to manage their emotions?

Are they having difficulties with either peer or family relationships?

Do they have difficulty sleeping or there's been a change to their eating habits?

If your child is aged between nine and 17-years-old, Barnardo's Wellbeing Service is here to support you and your child.

If you are registered with a Penderi Cluster GP practice, ask them to make a referral for you.

Health and wellbeing events

Members of staff from the school and cluster

The Cluster has held a number of health and wellbeing events based in the Penderi community.

Each event has featured local health and community groups and services which have provided information and signposted people to support available to them.

The aim of the events has been to support and motivate people to improve their health and wellbeing by making them aware of different resources and organisations available to them.

So far, events have been held at Penlan Leisure Centre and Christ Well Church in Manselton, while there have also been wellbeing talks held at Tesco Fforestfach's community room.

Family & Therapy counselling

Family & Therapy provides a counselling service for young people up to the age of 18.

In-person appointments are available at Page Street in Swansea.

If you would like to be referred, please speak to your GP practice.

Audiology service

Swansea Bay’s primary care audiology services delivers quicker specialist access for patients in the community.

Patients with hearing problems, tinnitus or problematic wax can now phone their surgery’s telephone triage system and book directly to see one of the primary care audiology teams at designated clinics.

It replaces the previous system which included a surgery appointment with a GP or practice nurse, who would then refer the patient to the audiology team.

Patients within Penderi Cluster can access the service at Singleton Hospital.

The service is in line with the Welsh Government’s vision for transforming primary care across Wales, and the emphasis on providing a range of quality health and social care services in the community.

It also offers advice and directs patients to information that will help them make decisions on their hearing care and manage the effects of their hearing loss and tinnitus.

All Wales Diabetes Prevention Programme

The All-Wales Diabetes Prevention Programme, which launched in 2022, targets people who are found to be prediabetic, or at high risk of becoming diabetic, and helps them make the necessary lifestyle changes to avoid developing the disease.

The programme offers patients a 30-minute consultation with a specially trained dietetic support worker.

This focuses on topics such as physical activity, healthy eating and promotes other lifestyle changes such as smoking cessation and alcohol reduction.

The programme is now available in all eight of the Swansea Bay primary care clusters – with a dietetic support worker based in each.
