Diabetes appointments

Please note we do not offer a walk-in service

Please make every effort to your attend your appointment, missed appointments cost the NHS money and add to waiting lists. Please read your appointment letter as your appointment may be a telephone appointment and not necessarily face to face.

 

What typically happens when you visit outpatients?

  • On arrival, report to the receptionist/clinic co-ordinator.
  • The diabetes clinic support nurse will call your name and take you to the treatment area.
  • Your blood pressure, height and weight will be recorded.
  • Your consultant may also request additional blood tests requiring a sample of blood taken via the vein. 
  • The diabetes clinic support nurse will show you back to the reception area to await the doctor who will subsequently call you into the consultation room.
  • You may be need to see the diabetes specialist nurse and/or dietitian following the consultant consultation.

Please note, you may not see the named person on your appointment letter and you could be seen by another member of the team.
