Working whilst living with pain

Living with pain can significantly affect your work life. Pain UK estimates that 41% of people attending pain clinics felt that their pain prevented them from working, and 13% had to reduce their hours. Evidence suggests that a healthy working environment is beneficial for your overall wellbeing. This can be due to a sense of social inclusion, contributing to family and keeping physically active through work.

Where possible, staying in work or returning to work, even with light duties, is an important positive step in your recovery. Focus on what you can do rather than what you can’t do.

Pain UK is an organisation that provides a voice for individuals living with long term pain. For more information and lived experience on working whilst in pain, go here to visit the Pain UK website.

RCS Wellbeing for Work offers a wide range of free services that can be beneficial for individuals who are currently employed. Go here to visit the RCS website.

Alternatively, you can discuss options for returning to work and its benefits with your registered GP.
