About Me

I am Head of Chemistry at Swansea University and have operated in multidisciplinary research since 2001, working in photochemistry, polymers, semiconductors, sensors, health diagnostics and cosmetics.

I have been awarded numerous grant awards from EPSRC, Innovate UK, EU, NIHR, Welsh Government and other funders, with total funding of more than £30m.

I am an EPSRC panel member and have a very deep and broad view of the UK and EU funding landscape and related industrial sectors – particularly semiconductors and healthcare.

I also do a significant amount of outreach work with the Compound Semiconductor Cluster.

I am the Welsh representative on the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Heads of Chemistry UK standing committee.

My research interests span everything from power electronics to health diagnostics.

I developed the world’s first epitaxial graphene biosensor and the world’s longest silicon microneedles (for transdermal drug and vaccine delivery applications).

I work closely with the Welsh Centre of Emergency Medicine developing sensor technologies.
