About Me

Director WCEMR

I'm a consultant in emergency medicine and intensive care medicine, who has been involved in research activities with the Haemostasis Biomedical Research Unit (HBRU), an integral part of the Welsh Centre for Emergency Medicine Research, since 2009.

My research interest focuses on how sepsis and acute respiratory illness affects blood flow, coagulation and haemostasis. My work on sepsis has been published in peer-reviewed journals.

My current research programme is looking at how acute respiratory diseases and the underlying pathophysiological changes in patients who present to the emergency department, such as those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), are at risk of developing thromboembolic events such as venous thromboembolism.

I am currently the vice president (until November 2023) and academic lead of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) Wales and is a member of the RCEM research committee.

I am also an honorary senior lecturer in Swansea University.
