Swansea Bay Patients Pen Their Thanks

sami rainbow

Grateful patients and their families have been in touch to thank Swansea Bay University Health Board staff for their care during the pandemic.

Our patient experience team has seen a huge rise in the number of positive comments via social media, emails and recent surveys captured during lockdown, which are being shared to show staff that their often above and beyond efforts are being appreciated.

One comment said: “The staff are professional and meticulous in everything they do and we feel that we are having the best possible service. I cannot speak highly enough of the service.”

While another said: “Care was absolutely excellent. I was helped, informed and cared for in every way. Considering the current situation, people are going far beyond what should be expected. I am very, very grateful.”

And a further patient said: “All the staff were helpful, friendly and had a professional manner. My tribute later this evening (Thursday evening) will have an added meaning and my very grateful thanks for their time and trouble, especially with all the other issues they are currently dealing with.”

It is particularly pleasing to know that we are helping families through some of the hardest times of their lives with one message saying: “I cannot thank the staff on the Covid ward in Singleton Hospital enough, from the consultant who took time to sit down and talk to us, to all the nurses that made it possible for us to see our Mum, getting us in full PPE so that we could say one last ‘Good night, God bless’.”

Marcia Buchanan, SBUHB Patient Experience Manager, said that comments were being complied and shared across the health board to help boost morale.

She said: “Every day our staff work hard to support and help our patients and their families during these difficult times.

“We know under normal circumstances staff members across our hospitals would, receive thank you cards and chocolates and biscuits from grateful families.

“It really makes you appreciate how grateful members of the public are for our staff and the care and support they have provided.  Reading the comments brings a smile and some bring a tear.  But they all have the same common message of huge thanks and gratitude for the work our staff do.

“We wanted to share with you just some of the wonderful comments we have received during this difficult time which have really helped uplift the staff.”

Here's a selection of the comments we have recieved:

During this difficult time you are doing all you can, going the extra mile.

We know you often receive thank you cards.

But we wanted to share with you just some of the amazing comments from Patients, Friends and Family members who wanted to express their feelings and to say Thank you:

I have to say every member of staff were very professional, kind and caring I could not have received any better treatment and care anywhere.

Student Nurse was welcoming as my daughter was in a lot of discomfort, tired and anxious. They soon relived out anxiety with lots of reassurance and explaining. We cannot thank Morriston Hospital for the care and treatment my daughter has had, The Dr’s from ENT who examined her understood and realised her anxiety were brilliant.

Everything was spot on all staff tremendous keep up the good work I love you all xxx

I am extremely thankful to this hospital staff and the NHS and will be writing to the CEO to tell of my eternal gratitude. Well done team.

I cannot thank the staff on the Covid ward in Singleton Hospital enough, from the Consultant who took time to sit down and talk to us, to all the nurses that made it possible for us to see our Mum, getting us in full PPE so that we could say one last ‘Good night God Bless’.

Someone even paid for my taxi, I was speechless about it. I love Morriston hospital.

Nurse gave me her own phone so I could call FaceTime my wife and Daughter (before iPads were set up)

Virtual visiting and clinics is a very good idea as this would keep infection down and face time is amazing way for patients to see their loved ones. I would happily have virtual clinics as park and travelling for some patients and careers can be very challenging. Some patient are very frail it cause some great anxiety

The care is beyond and above and doesn’t get enough credit or recognition of how important it is

Care was absolutely excellent I was helped / informed/ cared for in every way. Considering the current situation people are going far beyond what should be expected. Very very grateful.

Clothing & toiletries; in all fairness I was sent in from the surgery so had nothing prepared.    I only had to say once that I had nothing with me and they had everything I needed so I'm so grateful for that.

I would like to send my love and best wishes to all the staff on Powys ward from the consultants and nurses right down to the domestic staff thank you for making my stay pleasant and safe, my care was outstanding.

The staff and consultants were caring and listened to my concerns. Spending time to explain, without me feeling like a pain.

Would like to reach out to say a huge thank you to the staff at Morriston Hospital.

Senior Nurse was absolutely amazing, thank you.

All the staff were helpful, friendly and had a professional manner.

My tribute later this evening (Thursday evening) will have an added meaning and my very grateful thanks for their time and trouble, especially with all the other issues they are currently dealing with.

I would just like to thank you to all the staff who took care of me and saved my life. Many, many thanks.

Every member of the team have been very helpful towards my family. Very professional and kind staff.

From the moment I arrived, I was treated with the upmost care and kindness.

Excellent care throughout, even under such difficulties. Thank you all so much for saving my life.

The team were brilliant and the communication could not have been any better.

Every midwife took time to explain everything, which put me at ease. The midwife on the night shift was amazing, she was so supportive and friendly. All the staff were fantastic, I couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you! You are doing a fantastic job.

The staff are professional and meticulous in everything they do and we feel that we are having the best possible service when the team are involved. I cannot speak highly enough of the service.

Staff were exceptionally professional, polite and explained everything clearly.
