Unpaid carers don’t need to fall into another priority group themselves to come under the Green Book definition and Welsh Government criteria.
Unpaid carers provide crucial support to the people they look after so it’s important they are prioritised for the vaccine so that they do not fall ill with COVID-19 and are unable to carry on this role.
Initial evidence also shows that the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine in particular can help reduce the transmission of the virus. By vaccinating this group of people sooner, we can also protect some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.
