Get Cooking

Being able to cook is an important life skill. Knowing how to prepare food, ways to use healthier cooking methods and trying new tastes can help us all make healthier food choices.

Nutrition Skills for Life support ‘Get Cooking’ courses. These relaxed cooking sessions are designed to give participants the foundations of creating meals that are bursting with nutrients.

If you would like to learn more about creating healthier meals and want to develop your practical cooking skills and try new healthy eating recipe ideas but unsure where to start, this course is ideal for you.

 

Course overview:

  • Sessions are 2 hours a week for a total of 7-8 weeks
  • Fun and informal sessions in a relaxed environment
  • Free to attend. All ingredients provided.
  • Help you develop knowledge and skills of a balanced diet, healthy eating messages and food safety.
  • Try new meal ideas for yourself and your family
  • No prior experience necessary
  • On completion, you will be able to make at least 12 healthy recipes that are quick, easy, and tasty; with a recipe book when you finish the course

There is also the opportunity to gain an accreditation and credits for learning for attending this course (Agored Cymru accredited). No exams or essays to worry about, the evidence will be the recipes you make throughout the course.

You can attend at community venues or virtually. Shorter introductory sessions are also available.

The Gold Standard Healthy Snack Award  recognises and celebrates that a childcare setting provides nutritious, healthy snacks, and a positive eating environment.

The Gold Standard Healthy Snack Award is open to:

  • day nurseries,
  • Flying Start groups,
  • playgroups,
  • meithrins,
  • childminders, and
  • after school clubs

Being part of the scheme shows a commitment to children’s health and encouraging healthy eating.

Look out for this Gold Standard Healthy Snack Award when finding a childcare setting for your child. Settings with this award make healthy eating a priority which will support your child’s growth and development and will encourage lifelong, positive eating habits, essential for leading a healthy, nutritious life.
