Waiting Well: Helping you prepare for treatment or surgery

Being as fit and well as possible before treatment or surgery can support your recovery and improve outcomes. That’s why Swansea Bay now offers the Waiting Well service — a new initiative to support your health and wellbeing while you wait.

As soon as you're added to a waiting list, the Waiting Well team is here to help and support you.

The  team can guide you to tailored advice, self-management tools, and local support services to help you manage symptoms and prepare for care.

A key resource you’ll be offered is the Swansea Bay Waiting Well webpage, which provides lots of practical advice to support your health and wellbeing. Go here to view our Waiting Well online information

A picture of a team member The Waiting Well team has been contacting patients by phone, offering supportive lifestyle conversations around topics like healthy eating, physical activity, smoking, and alcohol — all aimed at helping you prepare for treatment.

From now, patients may increasingly receive a digital health assessment link from the team on via their smartphone or email. Completing this helps the Waiting Well team personalise the support they offer you. Since mid-September 2025, these digital health assessments have begun rolling out, starting with Gynaecology patients awaiting their first outpatient appointment. More specialities will be coming on board shortly.

If you receive a link to a digital health assessment, please complete it as soon as possible. This allows the team to offer timely, personalised support.

For those unable to complete the assessment digitally, the team may follow up by phone or email.

What to expect:

  • A welcome text or email with links to helpful resources.
  • A second message within 24 hours with a link to complete your health assessment.
  • You may be asked to complete more than one assessment during your wait, to ensure your support remains tailored to your needs.

For more information go here to our Digital Health Assessments webpage.

IMPORTANT: The Waiting Well service offers you general advice and guidance while you are waiting for treatment. However the team does not schedule appointments and cannot move you higher up the waiting list.   If your condition worsens, or if you are in severe pain, please contact 111 for advice, or speak to your GP or hospital service directly.

Thank you,
Swansea Bay Waiting Well Service
