  • Where do we work and how?

The GP out of hours service is based in Morriston and Neath Port Talbot hospitals and is available Monday to Thursday, 6.30pm to 8am, all weekend between Friday at 6.30pm and Monday at 8am and bank holidays.

It provides access to urgent primary care services for those living within the Swansea Bay University Health Board area.

The public can only access the GP out of hours service via the 111 telephone number when their GP practice is closed.

111 is a free, 24/7 telephone help and advice line provided by the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust.

During the out of hours period anyone calling 111 will either receive advice, be put through to a nurse for triage in the 111 service or put in contact with the GP out of hours service, where they can speak to a GP.

Following a phone assessment by an out of hours GP, the patient will either be given advice, a prescription to pick up, a home visit or a face-to-face appointment in one of the out of hours centres.

Anyone living in the Swansea Bay University Health Board area who needs urgent access to primary care services out of hours.

Patients or those calling on behalf of a loved one must call 111. Calling 111 and selecting option 2 provides access to urgent mental health support 24/7.

Lines can be busy, so we also recommend using the 111 online symptom checker. Go to the NHS 111 Wales website to use the online symptom checker.
