Discharge Lounge is located right at the front of Morriston Hospital, between the front doors and Costa. The entrance is shared with blood tests.
Open between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday, it is staffed by qualified nurses and healthcare support workers.
Patient to staff ratios are often better in Discharge Lounge due to its size, with one-to-one care available. All staff are Dementia Champions.
Discharge Lounge can support around 50 patients per day, including those on stretchers, who are unable to leave hospital straight from the ward.
Staff can undertake observations, pick up medication from the pharmacy, (To Take Home Orders (TTOs) must have been completed) and give medication as well as provide hot and cold drinks and food.
Staff can also book transport.
Discharge Lounge can accommodate the vast majority of patients who are not able to leave straight from the ward.
Patients can move to Discharge Lounge as soon as their To Take Home Orders (TTOs) have been completed.
Wards do not need to wait for:
Discharge Lounge staff will liaise with and pick up suitable patients from the wards or departments.
