The nutrition and dietetic service aims to improve the general nutrition of local people by providing specialist advice in the community, allowing patients to be cared for at home, and reducing hospital admissions. 

An initial dietetic assessment is carried out and a treatment plan is developed.

Prescriptions on specialist foods and dietary products are requested as required.

As well as providing input to individual clients the dietetic department provides advice and training to other members of the team, to enable them to screen clients for malnutrition, provide first line advice and identify those that require a dietetic referral.
