My role - I work closely with families, carers and agencies who support a child with a learning disability who displays challenging behaviour to try to understand the why behind their challenging behaviour. I do this by completing a number of assessments with those who know the child best, formulate this information and create an intervention plan to try to reduce the challenging behaviour. The purpose of my role is to provide education and understanding of the child’s needs.
Past experience - When I qualified as a nurse I worked as a staff nurse at an assessment and treatment unit in Swansea Bay University Health Board. From this I got a role as a Community Learning Disability Nurse within a Community Learning Disability Team working with adults with learning disabilities. I was always very passionate about working with children and therefore when a role came up in a children’s team I knew this was where I needed to be. I then worked as a Community Nurse in a Children's Learning Disability Service in Aneurin Bevan. I worked there for two and a half years before getting my role within Facing the Challenge.
Hobbies and interests - I love meeting my friends for coffee dates and having a catch-up, I love spending time with my family, I enjoy going for long walks especially where there is lots of space and nature. I do love going out on a night out for a good dance, but equally love nothing more than a night on the settee watching a good Netflix series.
Education background - I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Learning Disability Nursing in 2016 and graduated as a Master of Science in Child Public Health in 2021.
