The Cancer 50 Challenge - Sunday, 10th October 2021

Rugby legend Jonathan Davies, MBE has thrown his support behind an exciting new cycle challenge to support both Swansea based South West Wales Cancer Centre, and Cardiff based Velindre Cancer Centre and we’re inviting you to take part!

The Cancer 50 Challenge, hosted by White Rock Events, is a 50 mile, fully supported bike ride to raise funds for specialist treatment and supportive care for cancer patients from across South Wales. All proceeds from the ride will be divided between Velindre and the South West Wales Cancer Centre.

This is the first large-scale joint fundraiser for Velindre and the South West Wales Cancer Centre, and is an incredible opportunity to improve cancer care the length of the M4 corridor.

The joint fundraiser will take place on Sunday, 10th October 2021, following a route from Velindre to the South West Wales Cancer Centre based in Singleton. The event has capacity for 500 riders, with early sign-up participants receiving an official Cancer 50 Challenge cycling jersey.

Entry costs £50, plus riders will be expected to raise a minimum £50 sponsorship. This entry fee covers mechanical support, detailed maps, and refreshment stops along the 50 mile course.

Jonathon Davies, MBE, is President of Velindre Cancer Centre, he says, “Having been involved with fundraising for Velindre Cancer Centre for over 14 years, I am extremely passionate about cancer care in South Wales.

“I’m so excited to support this brand new venture which will support cancer patients and their families across South Wales.

“Fundraisers like this are so important to Velindre and the South West Wales Cancer Centre, as they allow us to provide an enormous range of services and tools that just wouldn’t be possible otherwise.”

Debs Longman, Head of Fundraising for Swansea Bay Health Charity says, “As we come out of the pandemic, this type of fundraising activity is really important.  At Swansea Bay, we are planning to use the funds for vital radiotherapy research.

We are hoping the Cancer 50 Challenge will be a huge success.”
