Professor Keith Lloyd has been appointed Independent Member of the Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB).
Professor Lloyd (left) is the head of Swansea University’s Medical School and brings a wealth of experience in the NHS, academia, Government and the third sector to this position.
Having trained in medicine before specialising in psychiatry, Professor Lloyd is also Chair of the Welsh Psychiatric Society, chair of ARCH (A Regional Collaboration for Health), which is a unique partnership between Swansea University and SBUHB and Hywel Dda University Health Board, the outgoing Chair of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in Wales, a member of the professional reference panel for the mental health charity HAFAL and a trustee of Heartbeat Trust UK.
Professor Lloyd (pictured) said he is committed to bringing the health board and the university even closer together and supporting research and innovation in health and social care to help transform the patient experience.
He said: “Realising the potential for closer collaboration between the health board and Swansea University is going to bring all sorts of advantages. Not only does the university help train and educate the health and social care workforce, there are also lots of opportunities for innovation and improving care, treatments and service delivery through joint research and innovation.”
He added that he was keen to draw on his area of expertise in psychiatry.
He said: “Valuing mental health equally with physical heath is crucial to improving the health and wellbeing of the local population.”
SBUHB Chair, Emma Woollett, said: “I’m delighted that Professor Lloyd is joining our board. Keith brings a wealth of previous experience to the role: from the university, previous board positions and as a clinician.
“We are all looking forward to working with him for the benefit of Swansea Bay University Health Board and the population we serve.”
