Research & Development

The unit has been very active in clinically-focused research and development, in particular in collaboration with Swansea University, and has attracted considerable project funding. These projects ensure the progression of the services and allow for their improvement through the assessment and implementation of new techniques.

Current/Ongoing REU Projects

  • The acquisition, determination and optimisation of shape for pressure ulcer prevention.
  • The use of a fibre optic tape to measure spinal movement and posture.
  • Development and validation of outcome measures for Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES).
  • Pressure Mapping.
  • TeleRehab.
  • Wheelchair stability prediction.

Education & Training

  • Jobs available within the REU will be posted on the NHS jobs website.
  • Qualifications as a Clinical Scientists can be obtained through specified training with the National School for Healthcare Science (NSHCS). Details of requirements for this career path and dates for the annual recruitment process can be found on the NHS careers web pages.
