Adults Returning to Cleft Care

You can return to access care at any point without the need to get a GP referral (if you live in Wales and are registered with a GP in Wales).

The UK cleft treatment pathway offers a lifespan approach – adults with a cleft lip and/or palate are therefore entitled to return to specialist care at any time.

The team working in the Welsh Centre for Cleft Lip and Palate are here for you. Please contact us if you have concerns:-

Tel: 01792 703810

Email: SBU.CleftEnquiries@wales.nhs.uk

You may have concerns and be considering further treatment, surgical or otherwise - these might include:

  • Concerns with nose shape and appearance

  • Concerns with lip shape and appearance

  • Concerns with breathing through your nose

  • Concerns with food or drinks coming down your nose

  • Concerns with alignment and/or appearance of teeth

  • Concerns with facial appearance and how your teeth bite together

  • Concerns with speech

  • Concerns with hearing

  • Wish to discuss referral to a geneticist to discuss the possibility of having a child with a cleft

  • Psychological concerns associated with cleft journey

If you would like to discuss any of the above, or if you have other concerns you would like to talk to us about, please contact us and we can arrange an appointment for you.

The options for appointments are:

  1. Attend a clinic in person : This would give you the opportunity to see a representative from most specialities within the Cleft team.

  2. Video Consultation : This option would only be with some members of the team. The benefits of this type of consultation are limited, as we cannot examine you. It might be useful as an initial discussion, especially if you live outside Wales and are unsure what an appointment in person might offer you.
