An urgent referral is not a cancer diagnosis
Being referred onto an urgent suspected cancer pathway does not mean that you have cancer. Your GP or healthcare professional has referred you for further tests or investigations to find out the cause of your symptoms as quickly as possible.
We understand that waiting for appointments, tests and results can be a worrying and uncertain time. To help support you during this period, Swansea Bay University Health Board offers a free online Prehabilitation Webinar for patients waiting for their first appointment on the urgent referral pathway. This webinar is available regardless of the outcome of your investigations.
How the webinar can support you:
We are pleased to highlight an important interactive online webinar designed to support patients during the early stages of an urgent referral pathway.
Waiting for further investigations and a diagnosis can be a particularly worrying and uncertain time. This webinar recognises those challenges and provides a positive, supportive space where patients can gain reassurance and understanding of the diagnostic pathway.
As well as offering clear information about the pathway, the session focuses on helping patients take positive, practical steps to improve their health and wellbeing during the waiting period. Patients are encouraged to take an active role in their care, with guidance on:
- Supporting physical health and fitness
- Maintaining emotional wellbeing
- Supporting health eating
- Managing anxiety and uncertainty
- Managing unhealthy behaviours
- Accessing helpful support and resources
The emphasis is on empowering patients - helping them feel more in control at a time when things can feel uncertain. By providing practical advice alongside reassurance, the webinar aims to reduce anxiety and build confidence while patients wait for their appointments and results.
Delivered online via Microsoft Teams, the session is easy to access from home and offers a friendly, informative environment where patients can focus on their wellbeing.
