Paediatric Psychology Diabetes

The psychologist in the paediatric diabetes service works closely with the doctors, nurses and dietitians who support children and young people with diabetes and their families.

You may meet the psychologist during one of your main diabetes clinic appointments. This is a chance to have a brief conversation about how living with diabetes is going. The psychologist can also arrange to meet with children, young people and their families separately if helpful.

We know that living with diabetes can sometimes cause extra stress or feel hard to keep going with. That is why there is a psychologist in most good diabetes teams. There are well evidenced ways to support families with any extra stress or distress diabetes might cause, so that it doesn’t get in the way of how you want to live life.

It doesn’t have to be a big problem to request to meet with us. Just talk to any member of the paediatric diabetes team if you think that we could be helpful and we will arrange to meet with you.
