There’s lots you can do around your medicines while waiting for surgery or treatment.

Each section below provides information to help you manage your medicines at every stage of your journey – from waiting for your surgery or treatment, to the day itself, and what you can do in preparation for going home afterwards. You don’t need to do everything at once. Set yourself small goals and break tasks into manageable steps. But don’t put it off – starting now can make a big difference.

While you’re waiting for surgery or treatment, there’s a lot you can do to be prepared.

  • Make sure your repeat prescription is up to date
  • Tell your hospital team about any other medicines, supplements, or therapies you take or use
  • Share details of any drug allergies or reactions you may have had in the past
  • Let anyone who helps you with your medicines know that you are going to have surgery or treatment
  • Work on improving your long-term health conditions
  • Stay up to date with your vaccinations
