We have dedicated clinic appointments and access to tests and you will be offered the next available appointment which can be at short notice.

If you have any questions or if you do not hear from us within seven days of being referred by your GP, you are welcome to ring either RDC Coordination Manager or the RDC Clinical Nurse Specialists on: 01639 862803 or 01639 862805

The clinic is held within the Afan Nedd Day Unit at Neath Port Talbot Hospital and clinics are held on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday morning.

The Afan Nedd Day Unit at Neath Port Talbot Hospital has two entrances.

There is a drop off area just outside the unit. If you follow the directions for Afan Nedd, this will take you directly to the unit. 

Coming from the traffic lights onto hospital grounds, turn right at the roundabout. After 100m, you will be forced to take a left and then head straight across the mini-roundabout.

Follow the road round until you come to a row of dedicated parking.

The entrance to Afan Nedd is located on the left.

Please note that this area has restricted parking for patients with limited mobility.

Alternatively, you can park in the main patient car parks at the front of the hospital. Please head towards the main entrance of the hospital, walk through the atrium until you reach the restaurant which is towards the rear of the hospital.

To the right of the restaurant is the physiotherapy corridor (just past the lift) and Afan Nedd Day Unit is at the end of this corridor

If you are arriving by public transport, the drop off point is outside the main entrance and you can follow the above instructions to the unit. Public transport information can be found on the Traveline website, linked here. 

We will try and send an appointment letter including a patient information leaflet, but this is not always possible as appointments can be booked at short notice.

If you need a letter for work, please let us know and we will provide you with one.

You will be reviewed by a physician who will want to discuss your history, symptoms and examine you. You may require a CT scan and this decision will be made on the morning of clinic. We will let you know what will happen in what order when you arrive.

The whole process will take up to one to two hours, then you are able to go home and results will be telephoned through to you in the afternoon by a member of the team.

We advise you wear loose and comfortable clothing avoiding zips and jewellery, as this will save you having to get undressed on several occasions.

 

When we speak to you, we will encourage you to bring someone with you for support as you are with us for a while, but this is not essential.

One of the tests that maybe recommended for you is a CT scan.

During your scan the CT department will inject a dye into you to make you organs clearer on scanning.

There is a chance this dye could make you feel sick if you have eaten food.

Due to this dye, we will also ask you to drink plenty of water before your appointment and for up to 24 to 48 hours after the scan to flush it out of your system.

Please take your medication as you normally would unless otherwise instructed by the clinical staff at the RDC clinic.

Further details will be given over the telephone when the appointment is booked.

Please bring a list of your medications as well as anything you feel you may need over the course of the morning e.g. walking stick etc.

Our aim is to improve your experience within a hospital setting.

Our intention is to avoid multiple unnecessary hospital visits, in order to provide a reason for your symptoms.

There are no tests completed that will mean that you can’t drive afterwards.

This is the only venue that the RDC is held.

Neath Port Talbot Hospital provides access to diagnostic tests that maybe required.
