How to prevent deconditioning - 'The little green booklet'

A patient giving a thumbs up

Understand all things deconditioning with the help of this guide.

What is deconditioning?

Deconditioning is the medical term for when you sit or lie down for long periods of time and it begins to negatively affect your physical and mental health.

When you decondition you begin to experience a loss in strength, balance, stamina, and even mood. All of which can worsen previous conditions and/or create new health issues.

Deconditioning exercise video

Our physiotherapy department in Morriston Hospital has produced a four-minute video demonstrating six simple mobility exercises, which can be carried out from a sitting position, designed to maintain mobility and help prevent deconditioning.
