Diplopia (double vision) and driving rules

The DVLA have recently changed the standards for reporting some eye conditions. This information is taken from the DVLA information pages and we are informing you of your responsibilities as a driver to report your eye condition.

You must tell DVLA if you have diplopia (double vision).

You can be fined up to £1,000 if you don’t tell DVLA about a medical condition that affects your driving. You may be prosecuted if you’re involved in an accident as a result.

If you are a Car or motorcycle licence holder, follow this link to the V1 form available on the Government website, fill it in and send it to DVLA. The address is on the form.

If you are a Bus, coach or lorry licence holder, follow this link to the V1V form available on the Government website, fill it in and send it to DVLA. The address is on the form.
