Am I in a high-risk category?

We are advising those who are at increased risk of severe illness from coronavirus (COVID-19) to be particularly stringent in following social distancing measures.

This includes the over 70’s and people with a chronic condition such as multiple sclerosis.

There are some clinical conditions which put people at even higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19.

If you are taking drugs that reduce your immune system, then you are at severe risk. These drugs include:

  • Steroids such as prednisolone tablets;
  • Disease modifying treatment such as ocrelizumab and fingolimod.
  • Dimethyl fumarate if your lymphocyte count is less than 0.8
  • If you have previously been treated with alemtuzumab and cladribine and your lymphocyte count is less than 0.8.

If you are at high risk, you should follow distancing guidance as advised by the UK government and monitor the government website for updates. See the link to our dedicated Coronavirus page.
